After years of speculation and strong demand from its customer base, Acura will finally introduce its subcompact SUV, the ADX, in North America. This revelation came after a brief presentation of the brand's upcoming products in North America. The ADX is expected to become Acura's new entry-level SUV in our market.
Positioned below the RDX, it is anticipated that the ADX's base price will be even more enticing than that of its counterpart. This move should enable the Japanese automaker to further expand its customer base. The subcompact SUV is set to compete with the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
A Familiar Twin
Acura is generally a conservative automaker, with most of its vehicles based on platforms already used by Honda. The ADX is no exception, drawing inspiration largely from the Honda HR-V, a model particularly popular here in North America. This similarity leads us to believe that the ADX will also gain popularity.
As of now, not much is known about the North American version. However, it is reasonable to expect that the ADX will share the same mechanics as the HR-V. This includes a small 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. It is not out of the question that the small Japanese SUV may adopt the same engine as the Acura Integra, featuring a small 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, an electric version is also expected to join the lineup later.
The official announcement of the model's arrival is expected later this year. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the Japanese automaker's small SUV will undergo a name change in the meantime.
