2022 Acura MDX Review - What to Expect
Posted on April 26, 2021
The MDX is the flagship SUV of the Acura lineup, offering a rare blend of spacious three-row comfort and high performance under the hood. What are the strong points you can expect from the latest overhaul of this successful model? Read our 2022 Acura MDX review to find out.
What's New for 2022
The MDX has been completely revamped for the 2022 model year, with a refreshed exterior design and increased levels of technology inside the cabin. Also, the powertrain has been updated to feature a ten-speed automatic transmission compared to the previous nine-speed.
Streamlined Design
The MDX takes many of the attractive stylings of the company's TLX sedan and RDX compact SUV and expands them into a three-row format that combines good looks with efficient use of space. Unlike many three-row competitors, the MDX avoids the boxiness of the minivan format, staying true to the sleek lines of a high-end SUV.
Impressive Performance
Even at the base level, the MDX is an impressive performer. The 3.5L gas V6 engine makes a hefty 290 horsepower, passing through the new ten-speed transmission to front-wheel drive, with all-wheel an option. This configuration delivers agile acceleration and responsive handling, but if you're looking for a little more pep, then upgrading to the 3.0L turbo V6 will bring an enticing 355 horsepower, with all-wheel drive as standard.
High-End Infotainment
As you'd expect from a luxury brand like Acura, the infotainment technology is of an exceptionally high standard. A 12.3" screen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-built navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless charging pad. What's more, essential instrumentation is handled by a configurable 12.3" digital gauge display, to complete the exclusive feel.
Advanced Safety Features
Driver assistance and active safety technology are traditional strong points of the Acura lineup, and the MDX lives up to the high standards set by other models. Key standard highlights include:
- Forward-collision warnings with automated emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
- Lane departure warnings with keep assist.
- Adaptive cruise control.
- And to complement the active safety systems, the 2022 MDX is built on a newly updated platform engineered to be stiffer and stronger and for added protection in a collision.
2022 Acura MDX Review: The Verdict
With its blend of great looks, high performance, excellent safety, and advanced infotainment technology, the 2022 Acura MDX is a high-end SUV that sets new standards in the luxury three-row market.
